The Beginning: April 2008
Black Dog CEO/ team rider and NASSP founder Rob Douglas hired 2 time Olympic medalist, Black Dog team rider and coach Mike Gebhardt from Gebhardt Performance Riding to help build and train the NASSP team.
July 2008
After 3 weeks of physical training and equipment development, Rob Douglas and Mike Gebhardt traveled to Fuerteventura to compete in the PKRA Speed World Cup event in Fuerteventura where Rob placed 2nd overall and set a new American kitesailing speed record of 40.21 kts.
October 2008 - Rob and Coach Gebhardt traveled to Ludertiz Namibia to compete in the Ludertiz Speed Challenge, world record attempt and the PKRA finals. In luderitz, Rob set two new American speed sailing records, a new overall world speed sailing record and joined the elite 50 knot club in sailing...........Caizergues, Douglas and Cattelan.
March/April 2009
Team NASSP along with new teammates Damien Leroy, Jamie Douglas and Melissa Gil traveled to Port Saint Louis Du Rhone to compete in the 2009 IKA World Kitesurfing Speed Championships. Rob placed 3rd overall with the 2 fastest runs of the event, Damien, the US National course racing champion placed 4th, Jamie placed 12th and Melissa Gil, NASSP's only women team member won the womens world kite surfing speed championships.
The NASSP Team is back home training and developing equipment for the 2009 speed events in Africa and Ireland later this year.
November 2009
Team NASSP traveled to Namibia Africa where Rob Douglas set a new American record of 50.95 knots and Jamie Doulgas became the 2nd fastest sailor in American history at 48.67 knots. Rob and Jamie finished 2nd and 4th overall at the Luderitz Speed Challenge/world record attempt.
The NASSP is currently training and developing equipment for the 2010 World Speedsailing Championships - Fuerteventura Spain, July 28 to August 2nd.
